Aberdare National Park

The Park lies in the Aberdare Range of mountains that forms the eastern wall of the Rift Valley. Among its famous lodges is the Treetops that made history when Queen Elizabeth of England was welcomed as a Princess, and the following morning left the lodge as Queen. The king, George VI, died that night!. Among the wild animals the lion, buffalo, leopard and elephant can be seen. The giant forest hog can be spotted rarely because of the large number of lions in this area. The Bongo, rare and shy, is found in the higher bamboo covered areas while eland, Impala, Black melanistic leopard, and Black genet are some of the animals inhabiting the moorlands. The Gura Falls, the highest in Kenya, are in the Aberdares.
