These three sanctuaries are found to the North of Mount Kenya and are close to each other. The northern Ewaso Ngiro River divides the Samburu and Buffalo Springs. The striped Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe,Gerenuk and the beisa oryx are found here. Common species of birdife in these areas include the Orange-bellied Parrot, the Pygmy Falcon, the Bearded Vulture and the Red-billed Buffalo Weaver. These areas are much drier more close to semi-deserts. The northern Ewaso Ngiro River continues to form the northern bounder of the newly established Shaba National Reserve, named after the Shaba mountain of that area. Ruppell's Vultures are found on the edges of Shaba mountain. Accommodation is available at the Lodges, and Camps located along the banks of Ewaso Ngiro River. |
