Further north towards Lake Turkana is the Maralal Game Sanctuary, near Maralal town which can be accessed either direct from Samburu National Reserve or through Nyahururu town via Rumuruti. A common sight in this area are the ornamented morans (warriors). A large variety of game including Zebra, Coke's hartebeest, baboon, warthog, impala, buffalo. can be viewed at the lodge's water-hole when they come to drink water. Predators like leopard, lion and spotted hyena can also be seen. In fact visitors are guaranteed to see leopards. To the northern part of Laikipia plateau is the Maralal town where the annual Camel Derby is held every October. Tourists can ride a camel here and have a fun experience. There is a lodge which offers comfortable accommodation.
